The fundamental purpose of Blinds is to control the amount of light entering a room. Blinds are used to block out some,  or all of the sun's light by adjusting their coverage on windows. They also achieve this to varying degrees depending on the material they are made from, with everything from light filtering, through to total blockout being available. This also helps with regulating temperature in the home and can lead to efficiencies in heating and cooling for your space. Of course, they should be aesthetically pleasing for maximum visual impact too!

There are so many styles of blinds, but they can generally be grouped into two types: roller blinds and panel blinds. Roller blinds are usually a single piece of material that is rolled around the cylinder to allow ease in operation with opening or closing them. Panel blinds consist of horizontal or vertical slats made up from various hard materials held together by strings which run through all the slat openings which is the mechanism for opening and closing them.

At Geelong Blinds, we are please to be able to offer a wide range of blinds, including the following:

Roller Blinds

This type of window covering consists of a single piece of fabric rolled around a cylinder to raise and lower its level. They are a simple solution for most window spaces. They are commonly used along with blockout layers or sheer curtains for a fuller effect.

Double Roller Blinds

Double rollers consist of two layers of roller blinds, a transparent layer providing visibility, doubled up with a blockout layer to provide complete privacy. These are a very popular choice not only in the home, but also in commercial settings.

Vertical Blinds

These consist of vertical panels, usually called vanes, which are connected via a track at both the top and bottom. The panels are able to be slid across the track and drawn to the side to cover or uncover the window space, and can be tilted to open or close them. They are a popular choice for sliding doors.

Roman Blinds

These blinds are similar to venetian blinds, but they're made from fabric and come in larger pleated folds instead of stacked panels. They are available in hard or soft fabrics depending on the look and feel required. When they are raised, they form pleated folds. It should be noted that they aren't suited for high-moisture spaces like bathrooms and windows above sinks.

Venetian Blinds

Venetians are one of the most common blind types and are made up of horizontal slats, connected with fabric tapes or cords, which also control their movement. They are usually made from PVC, metal, vinyl or timber and are a very durable and practical solution.

Panel Blinds

These are also called Panel Guide Blinds and are a modern alternative to vertical blinds. They operate in a similar fashion, however the panels are much wider than traditional verticals. They sit inside a panel track which has multiple channels to allow the panels to slide open and closed, by stacking them inside the channel. They are great for sliding doors or large windows.

Honeycomb Blinds

Honeycomb blinds are made from a single piece of material bonded together to form the honeycomb shaped cells and they either roll up or fold up along their pleats. They are a fantastic and affordable way to keep your home warm, offering varying levels of insulation, depending on the number layers they have.

Blackout Blinds

These are also commonly referred to as Blockout blinds. They are made from materials which are thick and heavy enough to block out 100% of the outside light. They are particularly suited to bedrooms and also offer great insulation due to their heavy composition.

Blinds are a great way to create an elegant and modern look in your home. They’re perfect for any space, whether it be the living room or bedroom. Blind styles can operate manually or via motorized function and come in a variety of colours that will accentuate the theme of your room. You can also combine them with curtains for an even fuller effect.
